CERTIFICATIONS & ACHIEVEMENTS
PRODUCTS DEVELOPED
1) MetLife Unified Disability Systems
This is a Disability Insurance Processing system implemented using COBOL, JCL, CICS, Java, Web methods, Web services and Message Queues. The system handles the disability claims and provides support to customers such as Bank of America, Verizon Wireless, Wells Fargo and Novartis. In addition to the claims processing, the software is also responsible for development of new reports and feeds to MetLife and its customers. Total Number of lines of code: ~2 million. Number of lines of code personally responsible for: ~250 thousand lines
Key Projects Implemented in this Product:
Migration of disability processing system from VS COBOL II to Enterprise COBOL
· Conversion of about 1900 VS COBOL II programs to Enterprise COBOL programs
· Involves in-depth study of VS COBOL II and Enterprise COBOL compilers and modifications to the programs to ensure portability to Enterprise COBOL.
· Performance tuning of database accessing programs by SQL tuning and redesigning the programs to optimize the data retrieval techniques.
Creation of Excel sheets using XML schema in the mainframe system.
· Modified the report generation process by creating an XML document in the mainframe and validating this using XML schema. These reports were transmitted to the customers as excel documents.
· Replaced the earlier method of transmission of comma separated files.
· Provided extensibility and reusability features to convert any other type of transmission to excel sheet transmission with least effort in the future.
Automation of Disability Insurance System
· Development of common reusable modules to create the payroll feeds dynamically. This reduced the turnaround time from 16 months to 7 days and also minimized manual efforts.
· Development of new approach of mapping COBOL copybooks instead of traditional one-to-one variable mapping in the insurance system that stores demographic details.
· Redesigned the file transmission modules to automate FTP, Email and Secure Email transmissions. This has resulted in the elimination of about 6000 lines of code due to code reuse and reduced 8% turnaround time for each file transmission in the future.
Knowledge Group–Life–Domain Solutions Group
· Knowledge Group–Life–Domain Solutions Group is a point solution addressing the claims process of a life insurer for its group life and group disability businesses.
· The reusable artifacts (Use case documents, Process flow documents, Business & Data rules) of this point solution will allow the project team to be armed with the generic set of requirements and design.
